Fun Facts from the Adler Planetarium
Last chance to see a solar eclipse until 2044: Monday, April 8, 2024. We won’t see much of it in Green Oaks, but if you travel to Carbondale, IL, you will be able to watch a total eclipse for 4 minutes, starting at 2 PM. We should be able to see a 92% of total eclipse at 2:07 PM in our own back yards. When and where.
Fact: the Moon is about 240,000 miles away from us.
Fact: it is the 5th largest natural satellite in the solar system.
Fact: the last lunar eclipse of 2021 lasted 3.5 hours, making it the longest lunar eclipse of this CENTURY (yep, you read that right). The viewing conditions were perfect for those up at 1:30 to 3:30 AM that morning.
Website Update
A number of your neighbors have formed a committee to redesign and update our community website. Stay tuned as this new website is populated with information. We hope to include features that we will all find useful. In the meantime, please continue to use our older site, that still has lots of useful information.
